App needs some improvements

I love national geographic but this app needs some improvements. The content layout should be optimized for the iphone 6 plus bigger screen. Also the app should have the capability to change the text color background to black so its easier on your eyes at nighttime. Please make these upgrades to your app and I will definitely give 5 stars.

Really bad

So many Issues. Its a constant thing. Its really frustrating.

Awefull !

Well, the iPhone experience is awful! I dont expect them to optimize the app or content for iPhone 6+ anytime soon. But one of most important features of NG is and has always been its photographs ! And photo viewing is so bad on my i6+ ! The pix are so small on 6+s screen (about the size of 5-5S i guess), positioned on the lower left corner (a bug I assume) and scrolling is a disaster ! Hope they fix them soon ! I really mis my iPad for magazine reading

Needs work

The app is slow to respond and gives obscure error messages.

Horrid app

It makes you pay to look at it and I deleted it right away it costs to look at a magazine

Great! But...

Wonderful. Finally able to read my Nat Geos. Picture quality awesome, havent needed to change text size. One complaint so far... When my phone auto locks after not having touched the screen for a few minutes (I think mine is set to auto lock at 5 minutes) it scrolls you all the back to the beginning of the article!!!!!!! Losing your place while reading, having to go back and find where you ACTUALLY left off. Thats my only problem so far with the app. Otherwise, hooray for Nat Geo!!!

Difficult to Navigate

It takes patience to simply open and read anything on this app. There isnt even an iPad icon with which to open it! You have to go through Newsstand. It does not maintain previously purchased issues. Very disappointing!

Gorgeous graphics and use of device

I rarely take the time to write app reviews but wanted to comment on this on. I view this on an iPad and the graphics are stunning. NG also makes an effort to take advantage of the medium so you dont just get repurposed magazine content on a digital device. Its a beautiful experience.

Better before update, no bookmarks, no Plus support

Before updating, when I came back to the app after closing it, it would remember where I was in each article. I tend to read articles a bit at a time on the train, and having to find my place each time is irritating -- especially since it used to be fine. And unlike some others, I actually preferred the page by page scrolling vs continuous. Thats not a huge issue if it would remember where I was or provide bookmarks though. The new design also wastes space at the top of eac screen for a new, rather pointless toolbar. Id rather it maximize screen real estate for the content and provide (infrequently used) tools via some other method. Overall, I love the content, but am disappointed in the new version of the app. Update: the above issues are still problems -- especially that it doesnt remember where you left off reading. And now theres a new problem: the photos for which the magazine receives so much acclaim, do not scale up to fill the screen on the 6 Plus (nor 6S Plus?). Very annoying.

No 6+?

Almost give my money to NG..Good i read comments first...No 6+ optimized no money NG..

5 stars with basic improvements

First off, I love having the ability to read national geographic in app form and Im not even a regular buyer of their magazines. Having the articles of each issue laid in a table of contents and without ads is a huge boon for me. Also reading the text on a scrolling screen is much easier on my eyes so I find myself more immersed in the stories than I otherwise would be. Buuuuuut NatGeo needs to do two things to make this app great. 1. Please let us preview the monthly issues! The lack of even just a brief caption is shocking. Who doesnt thumb through a magazine for a second before buying it? That impulse should be catered to here in digital as well. 2. BOOKMARKING! The interface for the articles is great but having to scroll down to find my place each time I leave the app is needlessly cumbersome. Fix these two (basic) issues and Ill change my review to five stars.

Needs a place saver

It needs to remember where you are if you turn off your phone, close the app, or accidentally swipe left or right instead of up and down through the article. I read these article bit by bit as I have time, and its frustrating having to constantly have to scroll through the entire article to find where I left off. I recently downloaded this app but it looks like this was a feature before, so I hope you bring it back. Then itll have 5 stars from me! I love national geographic!

Getting there

On my iPad I want to be able to pinch to zoom the photos, theyre so great I want to admire EVERY detail. Also update it for the 6+. Would love to have a version optimized for the times I dont have my iPad

Should Be Better

Man I love NatGeo. Id love this app just as much if: a bookmark feature was added, or if the app handled multitasking better as to not constantly lose your place within an article. And this shouldnt have to be said but PLEASE fix the photo issue on the iPhone6 plus. Photos only display at the smaller phone/screen sizes. Shame to not get more out of such great photography!

This App is a mess

The lack of basic functionality is appalling. Twice I have downloaded my previous versions only to have them disappear...and yes, each time I made sure the issues were archived (somehow the "on" setting for archive reverts back to "off". Then, the app forgets Im a digital subscriber. Very clunky. Stay away from subscribing to this service.

Great App, but may not last forever

I wrote this review before Rupert Murdoch did his damage by laying off 180 of National Geographic’s award-winning staff. How sad. National Geographic Magazine will never be the same now that Mr. Murdoch has taken over. Unfortunately, I’m sure that I’ll soon be cancelling my digital subscription with the magazine - was so looking forward to using this app in the future. Thanks a lot Mr. Murdoch!! (for ruining something incredibly beautiful that has entertained and enlightened so many people for years! Fox News and Rupert Murdoch…these are not nice people. (written before the news of November 4. 1015... Love this App...used to subscribe to Natl Geo - print version, but its been a long time. So happy to have found this app. Very interactive and of course, visually stunning. Highly recommend this one. Everyone should download it. Digital subscription is very reasonable, too.

Photos do not fill up the screen (iPhone 6)

As an iOS developer, I KNOW this is a very basic feature. Shame on you, NG. Shame on you.

No support

Ive had a digital subscription for a month and still cant access a magazine through this app. Contacted "customer service" 3 times and got 3 different ticket #s and no response to any of them. Called and Finally spoke to an apathetic person. Asked for a refund and only got a partial refund. Total ripoff. Very disappointed. I would have expected more from NatGeo.

Needs improvement that remembers article location and font size

Content is there, which is standard. Delivery and UI is weak and needs improvement. Previous versions were better. Leaving and returning to app puts you back into the smaller font and positions you at the top of the article. Very annoying for anyone using native multitasking functionality.
